Salida Mountain Trails Invites Community Volunteers for Rainbow Trail Cleanup – by Ark Valley Voice Staff

It’s that time of year again – with summer finally here, Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) is asking for volunteers to help clean up Rainbow Trail. Rainbow Trail maintenance is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.

The cleanup will be followed by a National Trails Day Celebration Luncheon, with free lunch provided by event sponsors Sweetie’s Sandwich Shop and Soulcraft Brewing.

“In partnership with Central Colorado Mountain Riders (CCMR) and the US Forest Service, Salida Ranger District, we are hosting a special ShinDig to celebrate National Trails Day,” reads their invitation to volunteers. join us for a day of shared stewardship on the iconic Rainbow Trail!”

Work will include improving drainage, restoring tread and addressing issues resulting from the Decker Fire and subsequent rainstorms. No experience is required. Most of the work will consist of basic maintenance, with opportunities for minor rock and retaining wall work. SMT will provide tools and training, as well as transportation between the CR108 parking lot and the jobsite. Maintenance work will focus on the junction of CR108 and Rainbow Trail.
