Platinum tea party thanks to community volunteers

By Taylor Murray

Community volunteers will receive a royal thank you at a special tea party for the Jubilee weekend.

The Tannahill Center is hosting a Platinum Afternoon Tea to recognize volunteers for their time, dedication and care for their community.

The Thursday June 2 event marks the return of Tannahill Centre’s ‘Big Lunch’, which took place every year before lockdown and brought together community members to build new relationships and share friendships of all faiths, ages and origins.

As well as bringing neighbors together for a community lunch, the event will be attended by a ‘royal’ guest, Ferguslie’s own Queen.

Josie Drage Draws, a much-loved Ferguslie volunteer, will don royal attire to present certificates and bestow honors to volunteers who have made a significant contribution to Ferguslie over the past year.

Josie said: ‘I can’t wait to inject some fun into our tea party while thanking the people of Ferguslie who volunteer their time to support others.

“The volunteers have done an amazing job supporting others in Ferguslie, and they do it all at their own pace, which makes it even more amazing!”

This year’s event will be extra special as it also marks the start of Volunteers Week and is part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration.

Tannahill Centre’s Volunteer Coordinator Bobbie McCabe said, “I am so fortunate to work with so many inspiring volunteers on a daily basis.

“Whether it’s an hour every once in a while or several hours a week, the time volunteers give to their community is so valuable that it’s only right that we say thank you.

The Tannahill Center has worked with almost 250 volunteers since the start of the pandemic. Some of the tasks the volunteers performed for their community included running support groups for local people and delivering and serving meals to the elderly and vulnerable.

Tannahill Centre’s work with volunteers is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund.
