Brentwood Park Work Day - Nov. 5th

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Please mark your calendars to join us once again for a fun and productive morning of work in Brentwood Park on Saturday, November 5th starting at 9 am. If you can join us, we'd be thrilled to see you!

It's part of the mission of Friends of Brentwood Park to organize a minimum of two community workday events per year: It's My Park Day in the spring (thanks to Austin Parks Foundation) plus a fall workday, generally on the first weekend in November. Last fall, an impressive group of volunteers gathered to plant 115 new trees in our park. You can see the video of the tree planting created by Rob and Susan Burneson here. It was an historic event that strengthened our connection to the park and the neighborhood, and gave us all such hope for its future. Little did we know at the time what challenges were in store for those poor young trees during the first year in their new home! In honor of the spirit of that event and those plucky little trees, please come out in November for just a couple of hours, and let's give those new trees (and the older ones too) some extra love to ! help them recover from this summer's epic heat and withstand the ongoing drought so they will one day grow big and strong to provide shade for future generations.

Generous sponsors Genuine Joe Coffeehouse will once again provide their invigorating brew to kickstart your energy on arrival, and CraigO's Pizza on Balcones will be providing post-event pizza at noon. Please thank them with your patronage!

We are coordinating with Austin Parks and Recreation Dept, on several volunteer projects including:

-weeding, dillo dirt and mulch around our newly planted trees as well as tending to established trees
-clean up of picnic benches and playground equipment
-rehab of the sandbox (sift existing sand, add fresh sand, etc)
-maintaining the volleyball court that was nicely rehabbed last spring
-maintaining the planting areas around the pool and east side park sign
-plus other volunteer projects still in the planning stages

In addition to our volunteer events, PARD will be aerating the multi-purpose fields to loosen up that severely compacted soil.

Please visit the registration page to sign up.

Preregistering helps immensely with planning for beverages, food and projects. Be sure to indicate how many people in your household/group will be attending. We know you will have a great time working alongside your neighbors on a cool fall morning in our very own neighborhood park. How do we know? We've seen the smiles, heard the laughter and gotten all sorts of glowing feedback from past workday volunteers.

And if it rains? Don't laugh... it could happen! If it does, we will be celebrating for sure! And we'll reschedule to the next Saturday (November 12th).
