Greetings, Friends!

Please come join us in Brentwood Park this Saturday!

Morning Joe in the Park
Review / Feedback of Tree Planting Plan
This Saturday, Aug. 7th, 2010
9am - 11am at
Brentwood Park
Refreshments served

As many of you know, Friends of Brentwood Park has been working with Walter Passmore of the City's Urban Forestry Department over the last several months to develop and refine a plan to plant over 100 new trees in Brentwood Park this November. We are pleased to announce to the community that Austin Parks Foundation has just awarded FOBP a $6,000 grant for this project.

To learn more about the latest developments, plan to come to our Morning Joe in the Park open house event this Saturday. You can leave your rakes, wheelbarrows and pitchforks home for this event. ;-) We'll be serving coffee (courtesy of Genuine Joe) and refreshments. We'll also have the most up-to-date version of the planting plan and we’ve tagged trees with orange tape that are slated for removal. Most of all, we want your input before the plan is finalized. It’s important for the success of the project to demonstrate strong community support, so you will have an opportunity to add your name to a list of neighbors who support it. Please come out and join us on Saturday morning!

Our deepest gratitude goes to the neighborhood organizations that have contributed matching funds for this grant: Violet Crown Community Works, Crestview Neighborhood Association and Brentwood Neighborhood Association. In addition to their generous contributions, we committed to raise $850 more through donations from neighbors and local businesses. So far, we've raised about $350 of that, but we still need to raise $500 more to meet our matching funds commitment.

If you can't make it to the open house but are interested in helping us meet our grant match, here are some ways you can help:

--Any size tax-deductible donation may be made through Austin Parks Foundation's web page: by selecting "Brentwood Park, Friends of" under "Gifts to Special Funds."

--Drop a few bills in the donation jar at the Crestview Minimax service counter.

--Donate $100 or more to dedicate a tree in honor or memory of someone (more details available on our website at or at the open house).

--If you are a local business owner, consider making a donation of $100 or more to be recognized as an event sponsor.
