The following letter from Austin Energy has been received by some neighbors along Grover and Morrow:
As you are aware, there is a major development on the West side of Lamar called Crestview Station. As a result of this development, Austin Energy is constructing a new substation at the north end of the development near the intersection of Lamar and Morrow. To meet the demand created by growth in the area, some existing electric lines will have to be upgraded. One of the lines that requires upgrading runs from Lamar and Morrow, proceeding west on Morrow, across the railroad tracks to the intersection of Grover and then south on Grover to Cullen Ave.
You may have already noticed some work being performed along the line and we have been informed that our tree trimming crews are now working in the area to clear the lines for the work that needs to be done. At present, work on the upgrade of the line is scheduled to begin in mid-October with crews drilling holes for the new, taller poles. In late October, new poles will be set and new wire installed. The work is scheduled to be completed in six to eight weeks. We anticipate little interruption to your service as we do our work.
We are aware that along Grover, some of the poles are located a significant distance into the front yards of many customers. Crews will take precautions to minimize impact to the yard and AE will restore the yard to as near the condition it was in prior to our work being done [as possible]. If you have questions concerning the work to be done, have an issue when the work is underway, or after the work is completed, please call 322-6442 and I will assist you.
We value you as a customer and appreciate your understanding of the need for this work to be completed.
Sincerely,
Sonny Poole - Supervisor

Coming Soon: Austin Home Movie Day!
Some of you may remember a time not too long ago when you captured those fleeting family moments, like birthday parties and summer vacations, not with some digital device, but with a home movie camera. Now it’s time to pull those films from the attic and learn how you can preserve those family memories for years to come.
On Sunday, October 19, 2:00 – 5:00 pm, you are invited to the third annual Austin Home Movie Day at the Ransom Center’s Prothro Theater on the UT campus. This free community event is an open screening where Austinites are encouraged to bring their home movies (Super8, 8mm or 16mm) or just show up to watch a diverse sampling of films that capture how our lives, neighborhoods, and communities have changed over the decades. Trained archivists will inspect your films and, if they’re in good condition, project them for all to enjoy. In addition, local film experts will offer advice on caring for your films, discuss why yesterday’s home movies are important today, and present a range of fun activities, including Home Movie Day Bingo and a chance for kids to put on the white gloves and inspect some film themselves!

Crime and Commander's Forum--Tues. 9/16 at McCallum H. S.
There has been some talk of crime on the neighborhood listserve.
One way to take action, to help deal with this threat, is to converse with the police. A good opportunity for that, is when the police department holds a Commander's Forum, including the police commander, lieutendant, sergeant, and officers from our police district.
I'm not speaking theoretically. I've been to at least five of them in the five years the Keohanes have been in Austin.
The next one is Tuesday, September 16, from 6:30-8:30pm at McCallum High School.
I'll miss my usual Tuesday night date with my wife at Quality Seafood to be there.
How about you? If you can come, and are concerned about crime, I urge you to try to make it, too.
