Below is a press release produced by Paula Gruber, a resident of the neighborhood.
Brentwood/Crestivew Neighborhood Patrol Kick-Off Meeting Summary for 27 Aug 2007
Brentwood and Crestview neighbors gathered at the Koenig Lane Christian Church on Monday, August 27th to celebrate the kick-off of the Brentwood/Crestview Neighborhood Patrol. Several topics were discussed, including the efforts undertaken to date on the patrol, current organizational structure, volunteer opportunities, and background checks. Barbara Zimmerman shared her experiences in participating in a citizen patrol in Houston. The Church’s Pastor, Frank Goldsmith, offered several Church resources for the patrol, including assistance with background checks, providing a safe location for patrol reports and other sensitive information, and facilitating having the monthly social event hosted in a different Brentwood or Crestview church each month. The monthly social events will be pot-lucks, similar to the kick-off meeting, and while patrol business will be addressed, the main purpose is to bring neighbors together. The social events are scheduled to be on the last Monday of each month, holidays notwithstanding and based on host church availability. Current efforts for the neighborhood patrol will focus on the development of patrol program materials for volunteer processing and training, and attracting volunteers for the patrol and senior-check-in.
Thanks again to Pastor Frank Goldsmith and the Koenig Lane Christian Church for hosting the kick-off meeting and offering valuable resources for the patrol. Please plan to come to the next social event and meet neighbors in a fun setting while learning more about this important effort for Brentwood and Crestview. The date and location will be circulated as soon as confirmed. If you would like to be added to the contact list to receive future meeting notices, updates and meeting notes, or to volunteer, please contact Paula Gruber at girlgruber@austin.rr.com.
