Crestview Neighborhood Meeting Summary

The Crestview Neighborhood Association meeting was held on 14 May 2007. We had about 40 residents show up. The two topics of discussion were Crestview NA officer elections and a presentation about Water Conservation by the City of Austin.

On the topic of Crestview NA officers, all existing officers were re-elected for another year term. Below are your neighborhood leaders.

Neighborhood Officers:

President......................Chip Harris
Vice-President................Steve Kuehner
Secretary......................Pam Mathison
Treasurer......................Jayne Hertel
Newsletter/Web Editor.....Jonathan Locklin

Steering Committee Members:
Beth Dodd
Dave Considine
Michael Keenan
Stephanie Phillips

On the topic of Water Conservation, there were free give-aways, a presentation on the new rules of engagement for water conservation, and other watering information.

The free give-aways were
1) Aerators for your sink,
2) Shower heads for your shower, and
3) Water hose timers for your outside watering.

On the topic of the new rules for water conservation, Austin will be changing our watering times and frequency. We will only be allowed to water during the night from 7:00 pm until 10:00 am. We will be allowed to water 2 times per week (I need to find clarification on this). To find out more information about the new rules of water conservation, go to http://www.cityofaustin.org/watercon/taskforce.htm.

The rest of the presentation covered examples of good/bad water use, lawn care, and garden care. The mantra is "It is Xeriscape NOT Zeroscape!" Gravel yards are not Xeriscaped yards and do increase the "heat island" effect in our city. Lastly, did you know that residents with water sprinkler systems use more water than those who do not have these systems?
